Collaborating with Other Artists in Montgomery County, Texas: A Guide for Creatives

The Conroe Art League (CAL) has been working hard to foster and promote the visual arts in Montgomery County, Texas. This has had a tremendous impact on the organization, leading to remarkable growth and a higher profile in the area and beyond. CAL volunteers serve as judges for the Conroe Independent School District and the Montgomery Independent School District, selecting finalists for the Houston Cattle Show and the Rodeo Student Art Competition. Furthermore, renowned artists have been invited to three-day workshops over a weekend, which have attracted people from all over Texas and other states.

The Lone Star Art Guild (LSAG) is a collective of fifteen art leagues, including CAL, located within a 200-mile radius of Houston. What began as a small visual arts contest organized by the Conroe Art League has now grown into a large and successful national art festival called “Madeley National Arts”. This is thanks to investment in HOT funding for the arts, which has also enabled the Classical Music Competition for Young Artists of Texas and the Arts Week of the Greater Conroe Arts Alliance to take place in downtown Conroe. CAL also collaborates with the Greater Conroe Arts Alliance, which organizes an Arts Week during which all arts organizations host events.

This is an opportunity to showcase all of the big and small things that are done throughout the year to attract those who create art, those who appreciate art, and those who want to learn art. Conroe has always been home to a vibrant arts community with fifteen different arts organizations, including a symphony, two theaters with resident actor companies, a symphony orchestra, and more. The Collaborating Council's vision is to create a supportive community in Montgomery County with stable families, where children are healthy, safe, ready to learn, succeed in school, and are prepared for life. The University of Austin in Nacogdoches has hosted the Texas National Art Competition exhibition for 25 years.
